Lamont Bentley starred as happy-go-lucky Hakeem Campbell, the lifelong friend, neighbor and eternally hungry mealtime guest of Moesha Mitchell and her family, in UPN's popular comedy series "Moesha."
A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Bentley moved to Los Angeles with his mother, an aspiring singer. His aptitude for comedy became apparent when, accompanying her on auditions, he frequently made people laugh. Soon, he was encouraged to pursue an entertainment career of his own.
Bentley's long list of television credits include a role in the acclaimed series "South Central," as well as guest starring roles in such projects as "The Sentinel;" "Courthouse;" "Family Matters"; "The Client"; "What About Your Friends"; "Equal Justice"; and "Reasonable Doubts."
Bentley played the role of Corporal Sea in "Buffalo Soldiers," a cable television movie starring Danny Glover; and the role of Nick, a suicidal mental patient, in the feature film "Gabriela." He received rave reviews for his work as Crazy K in the feature film "Tales from the Hood."
He has appeared in numerous commercials, including a long-running spot for Starburst candy, and has several stage productions to his credit.
Bentley has formed his own production company, Uprise Films, to acquire rights and seek film production deals. He is also poised for a career in music. He and a partner have formed Uprise, a positive hip-hop rap duo.
A rising star, Bentley frequently visits his hometown of Milwaukee, where the mayor has named a day in his honor. He was commissioned as an Ambassador of Good Will by the Governor of Arkansas, was awarded the Watts Community Image award for being a role model in Los Angeles and was named among the Top Twenty Sexiest Black Men by Sisters in Style magazine.
Unfortunately Lamont died in a car accident on January 18, 2005.
